Introducing Extra Table
Robert St. John, Hattiesburg restaurateur and newly elected member of the ESFC Board of Directors, posed the question “What if every restaurant in Mississippi had an extra table just to feed the needy?” He then developed a plan to make that a real possibility. Through Extra Table, a nonprofit organized by Mr. St. John, restaurants, businesses, churches, and individuals can make a tax deductible food donation to their local food pantry or soup kitchen. Extra Table has partnered with Sysco, a national commercial food distributor, to deliver bundles of food directly to food distribution agencies in Mississippi. The food bundles come in three sizes: $250 bundle; $500 bundle; and $750 bundle.
Currently, Sysco delivers bundles valued at $2000 to our food pantry each month. Mr. St. John’s goal is to double the amount of food distributed through our food pantry. We are grateful for all he is doing to address hunger in Mississippi.

Students from the University of Guelph Volunteer for Garden Project
Students from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada spent the afternoon under the direction of Mr. Harry Archer in improving the grounds and assisting with gardening chores. The students are supervised by Janet Doner, Coordinator, Civic Engagement and Alison Bridgman, Program Assistant. The students are spending their spring break as volunteers in the Hattiesburg area. We welcome them and we thank them for their commitment to helping others.
